Way more than a Children’s Choir
For our K-6 singers, the two groups (1st-3rd and 4th-6th) will feel like a children's choir with a TON of solo opportunities. We guide our singers to work through the nerves and preparation required to sing on their own - but in a way that is manageable and incremental. We teach music reading at an advanced level to prepare them to be the strongest musicians and singers in their public schools. We don't tolerate divas and we don't encourage attitudes.

We grow reliable working musicians.
We develop music reading skills WAY beyond what a child would learn in public school and even most private lessons.
We offer conducting experience which builds leadership skills. We teach Singing Theory - there are rules to good singing! Knowing these rules can set your child apart in auditions and performances.
Our students who have been with our staff more than 5 years can pass out of college-level theory courses. Our high schoolers breeze through AP Music Theory. Our goal is for our Professional Ensemble to be working at a university level - because it SO MUCH FUN to have the skills. When music isn't a struggle in any way - it's a JOY.
A vocal training ground lead by degreed professionals
Our 7-12th grade ensembles will feature some choir, some small ensemble work, lots of solos, lots of a cappella training. This is a tender age for young voices. Don't trust your child's vocal health to people who haven't studied vocal anatomy and who haven't been trained in the developing adolescent voice. Kids this age love to yell - vocal power is exciting - but vocal health is our #1 priority.

Our Professional Ensemble performs music of the highest caliber, solos, small groups, and as an ensemble.
Trust us with your child's love of singing
This is a diva-free safe-space environment where kids feel like their voice is valued and essential. As singers grow into their solo voices, we provide opportunities to test the waters and step into the spotlight. A culture of mutual support is cultivated and jealousy is spoken about openly - no cattiness allowed!

American Music Abroad

We have a relationship with American Music Abroad - a touring company that sends singers on an 18-day European tour to perform concerts in some of the most significant sites abroad. From places of pride like cathedrals and capitols, to moving sites like concentration camps and war memorials - AMA has provided a once-in-a-lifetime travel and performance experience for thousands of singers for over 40 years. Students are only accepted into this program by invitation, but we will be happy to interview and audition interested students for this life-changing experience. YSSJ will help our singers structure and plan their fundraising and will help prepare students musically for the experience.
AfterSchool Music students will receive a significant scholarship to reduce the cost of this program. Advancing and Professional Ensemble singers can earn income for this program by assisting with our rehearsals and performances, by performing locally at churches and events, and by working with us to develop fundraising initiatives to help them reach their goals.
